Nature: Astronomical research observatory & Sanctum
Cabal: Unknown Expedition

Info: Lick Observatory was the world's first permanently occupied mountain-top observatory. It's situated on the summit of Mount Hamilton, in the Diablo Range just east of San Jose, and it was constructed between 1876 and 1887, from a bequest from James Lick.

Here the celestial spirits of planets and constellations gather around on the mountaintop, while the spirits of darkness protect their heavenly Court by fighting eternally against the spirits of the encroaching light pollution, as human habitation in the area constantly gets closer and brighter to the observatory.

While the complex itself is primarily run by sleeper astronomers, there also happens to be a set of secret chambers beneath the structure, accessible through hidden passages. These have been used as a sanctum by several cabals over the years, the most recent of which are the Unknown Expedition. Their allegiance to the San Fransisco Concilium means that the Lick observatory is technically considered to be part of San Fransisco from the point of view of the Lex Magica, despite its remote location far outside city limits.
